Over many years, First Presbyterian Church has brought a host of distinguished authors, preachers, teachers, and theologians to Shreveport for the church’s annual lecture series. Funded through gifts to the Legacy Fund by Audrey Bolinger Westbrook and others, the lecture series was re-named The Spencer and Flora Murray Lectures in 2006 in honor of Dr. Spencer Murray, a retired associate pastor of this church, and his now-late wife Flora, whose inquiring minds were prime examples of what our lecture series seeks to be about: faith seeking understanding.
Recent lectures have included Dr. Thomas G. Long, Bandy Professor of Preaching at the Candler School of Theology; Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, Professor of New Testament Studies at Vanderbilt University; Rev. Dr. Michael Jinkins, Academic Dean and Professor of Pastoral Theology at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary; Dr. Daniel L. Migliore, Professor of Systematic Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary; and Rev. Cynthia L. Rigby, W.C. Brown Professor of Theology at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
