Worship Services

Sunday Worship Services

  • Main Worship Service - 10:45 a.m. in the sanctuary

The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month.  Children of all ages are always welcome in worship, where they can find age-specific Bibles and worship bags to help them engage in worship in developmentally appropriate ways.  Each Sunday children serve as Acolytes for worship, lighting the candles that sit on the Lord's Table and by bringing forward the elements for communion, and serving as Scripture readers.  Children are invited forward during the worship service for the Time with Children, led by a pastor or a member of the congregation.  Children are welcome to remain in worship, or they may go to Extended Session and Worship Center for childcare and worship education during the 10:45 a.m. service for children from three to seven years old.  Nursery care is available for children, infants to two years old.  A time for fellowship immediately follows this service in the gathering area/atrium.

Taize' Worship Service

First Presbyterian Church offers evening prayers in the style of the Taize' community on the first Friday of every month, September-May at 5:30 p.m. in the chapel.  This is a service of meditative song, prayer and Scripture reading, marked by an extended time of silence for personal reflection and prayer. Congregational song is accompanied by a small instrumental ensemble.  If you have never attended this service before, here is a sample of the music:  Ubi Caritas and Jesus Remember Me.  Nursery care is available for this service in the CE Building.

Midday Prayer Worship Service

We gather in the sanctuary each Wednesday afternoon at 12 PM for a short 30-minute prayer service led by one of the pastors.  We know that the middle of the week is a busy time, and we offer this as a way to slow down and remember to lift up in prayer the specific needs of our community and our world.  At each service, the names of members of the congregation are lifted up in prayers of joy, thanksgiving, healing, sympathy, or gratitude so that over time, every member will have been prayed for by name.  In addition to spoken prayer, we also incorporate space for prayer through Scripture, song and silence.

Special Worship Services

We offer a communion service at the Glen Retirement Community on the first Sunday of every month at 3 PM.

We offer an evening service at the Live Oak Retirement Community on the third Tuesday of every month at 6 PM.

During the Advent season, we offer Advent Noonday Noels, a service of beautiful music offered by gifted artists from around the community.  These services are held Tuesdays at noon in the chapel.

We begin the season of Lent with an evening service in the sanctuary on Ash Wednesday.  During Holy Week, we offer a Wednesday prayer/foot washing service at noon, communion service on Maundy Thursday at 6 PM, and a Tenebrae service on Good Friday at noon.  All of these services are held in the sanctuary.
