Children's and Family Ministry

We believe that we are all God's beloved children, and so take seriously the important ministry that children and families offer in the life of our community.  Mindful of the promises made at Baptism, we offer education, worship, fellowship, play and service opportunities for our children to be nurtured in faith.  In all that we say and do, we want all of our children to know God's love for them, to ask questions, to use their imaginations, and to explore with joy their identity as children of God.

These values help to shape the components of the Children's Ministry at First Presbyterian Church, Shreveport:

Worship
  • Children learn the meaning of our worship order, parts of worship, importance of corporate worship, and how to be worshipful.
  • Children develop a relationship with God, learn faith is a journey, and are open to the mystery of God.
Education
  • Christian education is age appropriate, interactive, and Biblically based.
Community
  • Children help to create meaningful relationships with others that connect them to the church, feel at home in the church, and help them to have fun!
Outreach
  • Teaching our children that helping and reaching out to others is our response to God's grace.
  • Introducing children to recognize the need to help others and that the church goes beyond the walls of our building.

Activities for children and families include weekly Sunday School, children's choir, regular family fellowship gatherings, monthly mission activities, and annual events such as our Family Mission Retreat and special holiday-themed activities.
